The Albert Vann Legacy of Service Award Scholarship Committee, in collaboration with the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA, and Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration, Inc., has developed a scholarship award at Medgar Evers College to support students who are committed to public service and community involvement. Internship and mentorship is also available through this scholarship.
This scholarship is an annual award for successive years until a student's graduation or ineligibility. It is in the amount of $1,000 renewable every fall.

Eligibility
You must submit along with your application:
Choose ONE of the following topics for your essay:
Eligibility
- GPA of 2.5 or above
- Earned at least 30, but no more than 90 at MEC at the time of application (Sophomores and Juniors only)
- Registered of at least 12 credits for the Fall 2018 semester
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and service experience
- Demonstrate strong interest in Public Service and Community Involvement
- Undocumented students are eligible to apply
You must submit along with your application:
- 500 word essay (see details below)
- Student transcript (unofficial)
- Resume
Choose ONE of the following topics for your essay:
- Select a current issue in health, economics, politics, youth, or education. Explain how your experiences in public service and community involvement could help address that issue in your community?
- How do you define leadership with respect to one or more of the following areas: health, economics, politics, youth, education. How will your education prepare you to be an effective leader? Provide examples.
